I used to see this regularly watching the tour de france, but first thought it was a fish design, it uses negative space superbly that once you “see” the letter C in the design, it stands out well and you immediately know which brand it is. Designed by Miles Newlyn, The interesting story behind this brand is the fact that the Carrefour mark is actually composed by two arrows, pointing left and right, reflecting the literal meaning of the French word “carrefour” (it means “crossroads”). But also, in a more symbolic interpretation, the “crossroads” can be understood as the multiple choices of products offered by this supermarket chain. the colors used signify the french flag from where the company was founded.
